Old photograph of a large gold nugget

Some miners were successful in their search for gold. This, the Welcome Nugget, was discovered in Ballarat in 1858 weighing 185lb (around 13 stone, the weight of an average adult man), and the Welcome Stranger nugget was discovered eleven years later in Victoria, weighing over 200lbs (more than 14 stone, or 90kg). These discoveries inspired thousands of others to keep on searching. (AD966/2)
