Photograph of a Judge and escort walking to court.

Traditionally the assizes – the highest county court – for Cornwall were held at Launceston Castle although from 1716 the summer cases were held at Bodmin in the old Friary Church. In 1838, with the building of the Shire Hall on the same site, the assizes were wholly moved here. This photograph shows the procession of a circuit judge across Mount Folly towards the Court House in October 1939.
