Kresen Kernow offers a range of learning opportunities for students in further and higher education, including group visits and volunteering placements.
Visits to Kresen Kernow
We welcome free education visits to Kresen Kernow for college and university students. We can accommodate up to 30 students at a time. Visits usually last around 1.5 hours, but more in-depth sessions can be arranged with plenty of prior notice. Groups will have use of one of our learning rooms and can participate in a range of events and activities depending on the focus of your study. A group visit will typically entail a tour of the building, including our secure strongrooms, home to 14 miles of shelving and 850 years of history, and then research activities using original documents, with a chance to find out more about working in a busy archive centre. Participants will have hands-on access to real history, and develop an understanding of how we know what happened in the past.
For general visitor and access information, see our Visit us page.
While we don’t offer a formal outreach programme to colleges and universities, we are able to give talks on a number of themes, including advice on careers in the sector. Please contact our Learning Lead, or email firstname.lastname@example.org, if you are interested in an event of this nature.
Volunteering and work experience
We offer a wide range of volunteering placements, ideal for students interested in pursuing a career in the heritage or archives sector, or those with a general interest in or passion for history. Placements can involve a diverse range of tasks, including cataloguing documents, digitisation, cleaning and packaging, helping with learning and marketing tasks and much more. We offer long term regular placements as well as short term focused placements. Visit our volunteering pages to find out more.
