Among our collections is a fascinating letter sent from John Tremayne to his father, Lewis, shortly after the Great Fire of London. The family lived at Heligan, today famous for its gardens, but 19 year old John was in London at the time of the fire. The letter he wrote back provides a fascinating eyewitness insight into the fire.
To use the letter in your classroom, download the Great Fire letter and transcript. At present we don’t offer a visit or workshop specifically on this theme, however, children could view the letter as part of a more general visit to Kresen Kernow.
A short film about the letter is also available on our YouTube channel.
