Key information: free, outreach or on-site visit, 1 hour per class, Key Stage 1
In this workshop children are introduced to Avery the pirate through a mysterious archive document about his buried treasure. They will look at replicas of old maps of Cornwall and identify key physical and human features, and use simple directional language to describe positions and locations on felt treasure maps. The workshop is available as an outreach workshop in your classroom, or as part of a visit to Kresen Kernow.
Outreach workshops are available for free at your school. Each workshop lasts around an hour, is suitable for one class of children and is delivered by a member of our learning team. We are able to deliver multiple workshops in one day (a maximum of three), subject to availability. We usually recommend booking at least a month in advance as we do get booked up quickly.
Visits to Kresen Kernow
We offer free, facilitated school visits to Kresen Kernow. We are able to accommodate one class at a time in our dedicated learning rooms, and visits can last up to 3 hours. A visit will typically entail a tour of the building, including our secure strongrooms, home to 14 miles of shelving and 850 years of history, followed by a workshop on your chosen theme using original Cornish documents from our collections.
Please note: we adhere to Ofsted and Department for Education guidelines for staff-pupil ratios. For more information, please read our Teacher’s guide to visiting Kresen Kernow.
