The Cornwall Tapestries

The Cornwall Tapestries are something of an anomaly in our collection of archives and books.

These 58 embroideries were created by the Tregellas Foundation (established by Rita Tregellas Pope) in the 1990s to ‘advance the knowledge and understanding of Cornwall’s cultural heritage’. The tapestries were made by embroiderers from across Cornwall and each takes a theme from Cornish history or mythology and vibrantly illustrates it.

For nearly 20 years the tapestries hung at the Cornwall Centre in Alma Place, Redruth, and moved to Kresen Kernow when it opened in 2019. Several of the tapestries are on display at Kresen Kernow at any one time, and the rest can be seen by visiting our strongrooms (by pre-arrangement only). We have also digitised the full selection.
