Arundell Court Rolls (2)

Photograph of rolls of parchment.

Court rolls contain records of legal proceedings relating to the customs of a particular manor; early manorial court rolls were normally written on pieces of parchment (and later paper) which were stitched together and made into rolls. There were two types of court, which would try a range of offences. The Arundell collection (AR/) holds a great many court rolls dating from the 14th century.
